So Anbernic just dropped a teaser for the RG Slide — and people are already getting PSP Go flashbacks. Sliding handhelds aren’t common, and this one immediately feels like a throwback in all the right ways.
It’s not the first of its kind — the GPD Win 3, Win 4, and AYANEO Slide all did it first. But they’re all up in the $500+ range. This one? If Anbernic sticks to their usual pricing strategy, it could be the first affordable slider to actually hit the mainstream.
From the teaser, we can spot cooling vents, a rounded design, and inline shoulder buttons. It definitely gives off PSP Go or Xperia Play vibes — though it’s clearly chunkier. An image of a blueprint of the RG Slide shared by Nittrx seems to hint at something even crazier: a dual-screen setup. If that’s true, it could be the first budget dual-screen slider in handheld history. From the looks of it, the bottom screen looks 4:3 while the top is 16:9, which is… weird but kind of cool?

Size-wise, it’s definitely larger than the PSP Go. It’s not ultra-pocketable, but none of the widescreen devices are anyway. And considering there’s a fan in there, we might finally be looking at a handheld that doesn’t rely on the same old Allwinner H700. Fingers crossed it can handle PS2 games — because a slide-out emulator that runs God of War II would be a flex.
Over on Reddit and YouTube, the reaction has been mostly positive. People love the form factor — a lot of comments are basically “Shut up and take my money”. That’s the kind of hype you can’t manufacture. Some are skeptical about the ergonomics, but the curiosity factor is through the roof. Good job Anbernic for listening to your fans.
No price, no specs, no release date. But we’ll definitely share more info as soon as it drops. If it’s even remotely powerful and not ridiculously priced, this could be one of the most interesting handheld releases of the year.
