Anbernic’s at it again, and this time it’s the RG477M — a sleek metal-bodied handheld that looks like it’s aimed squarely at serious retro gaming fans. Leaks from QQ chatroom images and community sites like SBCGaming on Reddit suggest this could be one of the most powerful 4:3 handhelds ever released, pairing a 4.7-inch 1280×960 display with the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset.
Yes, the same Dimensity 8300 that powers the RG557. If that holds true, this would mark the first time a 4:3 handheld from Anbernic gets a chip of this caliber — and potentially the most powerful 4:3 retro handheld to date. For context, older 4:3 devices like the RG405M or RG353 series are far behind in raw performance, with chips like the Unisoc T618 or RK3566. The recently released Anbernic RG Slide comes close with its Unisoc T820, but the Dimensity 8300 is still a step above.
With a horizontal metal shell, dual analog sticks, and what appear to be stacked shoulder buttons, it’s already drawing comparisons to a more premium RG405M. Many are touting it as the true successor to that device. So far, reception seems largely positive — even more so than the RG Slide.
There’s no official word yet on other specs, pricing, or release date. More details to come as they surface.
