The price difference between the Retroid Pocket 3+ and the ONEXPLAYER 2 is like heaven and earth. The ONEXPLAYER 2 could be 6 times more expensive but comes with higher end specs and features such as having the AMD Ryzen 6800U and bigger storage/RAM. What should be considered in order to pick one of the two?
Advantages of Retroid Pocket 3+
- Significantly cheaper at only $149 vs the $899 of the ONEXPLAYER 2.
- Runs on Android. If you are looking to use Android exclusive software/games, it will be easier to do it on the Retroid Pocket 3+ over the ONEXPLAYER 2.
- It is a much smaller and more pocketable.
- Much longer battery life and works much better as a retro handheld gaming device than the ONEXPLAYER 2.
- Brighter screen at 450 nits vs 350 nits.
Advantages of ONEXPLAYER 2 advantages
- The AMD Ryzen 6800U is the most powerful CPU you can find on handhelds today. This CPU together with its GPU (Radeon 680M) is capable of emulating up to the PS3. It is also capable to play most modern PC games at 1080p at low to medium details.
- Runs on Windows 11.
- Significantly more RAM and internal storage. Faster storage as well since it is using NVMe SSD.
- Higher resolution screen.
- Better connectivity options.
TLDR
If you are looking for a handheld with great performance to play all the latest and greatest, then there is no doubt that the ONEXPLAYER 2 is the clear winner. However it is a much more expensive and bulkier. If performance isn’t as important and you are happy to be able to play up to 6th generation consoles, then the Retroid Pocket 3+ should be your go to device.
